I know. We just got through the High Holidays, you haven’t yet begun to think about Thanksgiving, and already I’m stressing you out about Hanukkah. Let me explain.
First of all, I’m really excited about the new artisans and original products we’ve added — and are adding — since our first Hanukkah season last year. I can’t wait to introduce them to you. But second, because so many of our products are handmade or shipped directly from artisans in Israel and other parts of the world, it’s important we receive orders soonest in order to get them to you in time for the holidays. We’ve all been conditioned by Amazon and other online merchants to expect overnight delivery when we want it. However if you’re shopping for truly special and unique gifts, you’ll appreciate that, for example, a carnelian choker necklace from Ben-Zion David’s Yemenite studio in Jaffa, or a handwoven tallis from Weaving Creations in the old Jewish Quarter of Jerusalem, are not mass-produced items sitting on warehouse shelves, waiting to be processed by robots.
At FT&V, I AM the robot. I oversee every order myself. If something goes wrong or a customer is disappointed, I’m the one who’s going to make it right. Alternatively, I also have the pleasure of working with so many of you directly, whether it’s helping to customize a wedding or anniversary gift, or choosing just the right scent for a bat mitzvah girl’s first bottle of perfume. If you don’t see something you’re looking for on our site — or wonder if we can personalize an item, or change out the stone in a piece of jewelry — don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly (firstname.lastname@example.org). More often than not, we can.
Next week I’ll be launching a comprehensive online Hanukkah gift guide which will offer deadlines for any products requiring extra lead or delivery time. I’m also creating special gift baskets and holiday boxes to ship to friends and family: bottles of Makura olive oil from Israel’s ancient groves; gourmet halva and tahini from Chelsea Market’s Seed + Mill; handmade scents and soaps from Jerusalem and SO MUCH MORE!
So stay tuned! Here’s a brief glimpse of what’s in store.
